On December 12, Pangea Geotechnia participated in GeoWeek Peru 2025, the International Geotechnical Engineering Conference organized by the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP). Now in its seventh edition, the event brought together geotechnical professionals, researchers, academics, and industry representatives from several countries to discuss the latest developments in geotechnical engineering and their applications in infrastructure and mining projects.
During the conference, Rafael Martínez Ascencio, CEO of Pangea Geotechnia, was invited to present within the technical session dedicated to the application of Machine Learning in Geotechnical Engineering. His presentation, entitled "Artificial Intelligence for Andean Geotechnics," explored how artificial intelligence and numerical modeling are enabling more accurate interpretation of high-resolution pressuremeter tests, particularly in the hard, heterogeneous, and highly variable ground conditions commonly found throughout the Andes.
The presentation highlighted the benefits of these approaches for improving geotechnical characterization, optimizing design parameters, and increasing the reliability of engineering models used in tailings facilities, excavations, tunnels, and infrastructure projects located in challenging geological environments. It also emphasized the value of integrating in situ data, advanced numerical simulations, and artificial intelligence to support the development of safer, more efficient, and more sustainable engineering solutions.
Participating in international technical forums such as GeoWeek Peru provides an opportunity to share our experience, contribute to the advancement of geotechnical engineering, and maintain an active dialogue with the Latin American geotechnical community as we collectively address the engineering challenges of the region.
