From September 3 to 5, Pangea Geotecnia participated in the 11th International Conference on Tailings Management – Tailings 2025, organized by Gecamin in Santiago, Chile. Held at the Sheraton Hotel, the conference brought together more than 790 delegates from 22 countries, reinforcing its position as one of the world's leading technical events dedicated to the design, management, and monitoring of tailings storage facilities.
Over the course of three days, more than 150 technical presentations were delivered, covering the latest developments, research, and industry best practices in tailings engineering and management.
During this year's conference, José Quiroz, Project Engineer at Pangea Geotecnia, presented the application of high-resolution pressuremeter testing combined with artificial intelligence for the design of tailings storage facilities. His presentation demonstrated how this methodology helps reduce uncertainty by providing more accurate and reliable geotechnical models, while enabling the determination of key design parameters such as K₀ (coefficient of earth pressure at rest) and the state parameter, both of which are fundamental for advanced tailings engineering.
