Project Overview
As part of the **Rinconada Wind Farm** development, Pangea Geotechnia carried out a comprehensive **hydrogeological investigation** to evaluate the radius of influence associated with groundwater drawdown during the construction of the wind turbine foundations. The objective was to characterize the site's hydrogeological conditions and design an efficient groundwater management system that would support construction while protecting local water resources. The investigation included **10 Standard Penetration Test (SPT) boreholes**, each drilled to a depth of **25 meters**, **10 trial pits**, **in situ permeability testing** (Lefranc and Porchet methods), **MASW geophysical surveys**, and a comprehensive laboratory testing program. Using these data, multiple groundwater drawdown scenarios were simulated with specialized numerical modeling software to assess the performance of **wellpoint dewatering systems** designed to maintain the groundwater table below the foundation level. As part of the proposed solution, an **infiltration trench system** was designed to return the extracted groundwater to the aquifer, minimizing environmental impacts and promoting sustainable groundwater management. This project successfully integrated geotechnical engineering, hydrogeology, and numerical modeling to deliver a robust technical solution supporting the development of renewable energy infrastructure in Chile.
